Box Score 2 Port Charlotte, Fla.— The John Jay baseball team opened its 2011 season on Tuesday with a pair of losses as the Bloodhounds lost both games of a doubleheader to Marywood University. They lost the first game 28-8 before falling in game two 5-1.
In the first game, John Jay fell behind 14-0 going into the bottom of the third. All eight runs by the Bloodhounds came in the bottom half of inning three. The inning was highlighted by a homerun by
Bobby Villante.
In game one, John Jay was led by Steve Caracen with three hits, followed by Villante,
Dennis Lopez,
Wilmer Chavez and
Corry Harper with one hit each.
Jeffrey Gonzalez suffered the game one loss after allowing 13 runs (11 earned) in 2 2/3 innings of work.
In the second game, John Jay allowed two runs in the first and three in the third to fall behind 5-0 after three innings. The Bloodhounds lone run came in the sixth inning when Chavez, who tripled, scored on a hit by Ryan Corrigan.
Chavez was 2-for-3 in the nightcap.
Braylin Perez suffered the loss after going 5.0 innings and allowing five runs (two earned) on six hits and striking out two.
