Staten Island, N.Y.— The John Jay baseball team was defeated in the rubber game of a weekend series with the College of Staten Island as the Bloodhounds lost to the Dolphins 14-1 in a non conference game at the CSI Baseball Complex.
The loss drops John Jay to 7-18 overall this season.
The Bloodhounds had eight hits in the contest, including two each from
Dennis Lopez and William Moran.
Wilmer Chavez, who went 0-for-3 earned his team-leading thirty-first run batted in of the season as he drove in John Jay's only run with a ground out that scored
Yahnny Arias who started the inning with a single.
The host Dolphins went to work immediately and attacked the Bloodhounds with three runs in the bottom of the first. The inning was capped on a one out double to right by Joseph Falcone that scored two runs. The at bat was the start of a big afternoon for Falcone who was 3-for-5 and was just a homerun shy of batting for the cycle. He scored once and had five RBI.
The 3-0 lead lasted into the fourth inning when CSI tacked on seven more scores to go up 10-0 at that point. Falcone and Pat Gale both recorded triples in the frame and combined for four RBI in the inning.
John Jay's lone run was scored in the top of the fifth as the Bloodhounds trailed 10-1.
The Dolphins scored four more times in the bottom half of the inning to round out the scoring.
CSI recorded 13 hits, including at least one by eight of the nine batters in the order.
Chavez suffers the loss after going 3 2/3 and allowing 10 runs (nine earned) on nine hits and striking out five.
John Jay returns to action on Wednesday April 13 for a home game against SUNY Old Westbury at 3:30 p.m.
