Randall's Island, N.Y.— The John Jay softball team lost a pair of conference games on Monday afternoon as the Bloodhounds were defeated by defending CUNYAC champion Baruch College. The first game score was 13-2 and game two was 11-5.
In the first game, John Jay had five hits. The Bloodhounds were shutout through the first four innings and got on the board with a pair of runs in the bottom of inning number five. A single by
Angela Lam scored Brigitte Martinez. Then a fielder's choice ground out by
Krystal Class brought home
Lana Kovac.
John Jay got one hit each from Lam, Class, Martinez, Kovac and
Nelly Vega.
Baruch was led in the first game by Idelissa Lluveres who was 4-for-4 with a double, two runs and two RBI.
In the second game, the Bloodhounds were led by Class who was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and three RBI, while Lam, Vega, Kovac and
Kaitlyn Walsh had a pair of hits each.
Baruch took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a homerun by Lluveres. But John Jay came back in the bottom of the third to take a 2-1 advantage. Class ripped a two run single to drive in Lam and Kovac.
The Bloodhounds extended the lead to 4-1 with another two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Class and Vega recorded back-to-back singles to drive in the runs. The latter was scored by Class who made it to third on her hit before Vega singled her in.
But the Bearcats scored two in the sixth to pull to within a run. Then they poured on eight runs in the top of the seventh to take the lead and establish a cushion before the game went final.
Lluveres went 2-for-5 with a double, homerun, two runs and two RBI in the game two win for the Bearcats.
