Softball Sweeps York in a CUNYAC Doubleheader

Queens, N.Y.— The John Jay softball team won a pair of conference games on Thursday afternoon as the Bloodhounds beat York College in both games of a doubleheader. They won the first game 12-2 and the second game 19-8.

In the first game, the Bloodhounds had a big performance by Nelly Vega who was 3-for-5 and was a single shy of the cycle. She scored three times and registered five runs batted in. Meanwhile Angela Lam recorded two runs batted in, in a 1-for-4 performance.

All nine members of the starting batting order for the Bloodhounds had at least one hit or one run scored.

John Jay scored three runs in the first and eight in the second to lead 11-0 after an inning and a half. The Bloodhounds scored another in the third to take a 12-0 lead.

York's lone two runs came in the bottom of the third as starting pitcher Lam limited the Cardinals to two runs on three hits.

In the second game, Vega continued her big afternoon by going 2-for-4 with a pair of runs and four runs batted in. She also picked up the game two win while making her first ever appearance for the Bloodhounds as a pitcher. She went 5.0 innings and allowed eight runs (three earned) on four hits and struck out seven batters.

Krystal Class went 3-for-4 with three runs and three runs batted in. Meanwhile Kalyssa Daley was 1-for-3 and had three runs and three runs batted in.

John Jay's runs came via two huge innings. The Bloodhounds scored nine runs in the top of the first and 10 in the top of the third to put up a 19 spot after just three innings.

York plated four runs in the bottom of the first and another in the second, then three in the third to round out its scoring.
