New Paltz, N.Y.— Playing its final game before the conference championship tournament this weekend, the John Jay baseball team lost a non conference game to SUNY New Paltz 4-1 on Tuesday afternoon.
With the loss, John Jay's record falls to 8-25 as the Bloodhounds will now go headlong into the conference championship.
John Jay was limited to four hits in the contest, including one each by
Wilmer Chavez, Ryan Corrigan, William Moran and
Bobby Villante.
The host Hawks scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the third to take a 1-0 lead. SUNY New Paltz added two in the fifth and another in the eighth to go up 4-0 after eight innings.
John Jay got its only run of the game in the top of the ninth. A two-out single by Moran broke the Hawks' shutout bid as Corrigan came in to score on the hit.
The Bloodhounds used seven pitchers in the contest.
Ronald Barillas started the game and pitched two shutout innings. Then
Mark Marte,
Braylin Perez,
Alex Rodriguez,
Yahnny Arias, Chavez and
Corry Harper went an inning each.
