Baseball Completes Weekend Sweep of Lehman with Non Conference Win

Brooklyn, N.Y.— After sweeping a pair of conference games from Lehman on Saturday, the John Jay baseball team finished off the weekend set with the Lightning as the Bloodhounds defeated Lehman College in a non conference game 14-3 at American Legion Field.

With the win, the Bloodhounds are now 5-15 and winners of three straight, while Lehman falls to 4-13 on the year.

Offensively, the Bloodhounds were led by senior left fielder Bobby Villante who was 3-for-3 on the afternoon with three runs and an RBI. Meanwhile teammates Yahnny Arias, Dennis Lopez and Cosme Munoz had two hits each. William Moran had a game-high three runs batted in, in the victory.

While on the field, the Bloodhounds got an outstanding outing from Wilmer Chavez who went the distance and allowed three runs on nine hits and struck out seven in the win en route to his first win of the season.

Lehman was led by Jhon Comas-disla, Jeremy Lopez and Onix Mejia with two hits each, while Comas-disla had a pair of RBI.

The Bloodhounds took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when leadoff batter Corry Harper scored on a wild pitch.

Lehman quickly tied the score in the top of the second when a single by Mejia scored Christian Fadul who led off the inning with a triple to left field.

With the scored knotted at 1-1, the Bloodhounds took the lead for good with three runs in the bottom of the fourth. The key blow was a two out, two run single by Moran that scored Munoz and Villante. Moments later a single by Harper scored Moran.

Lehman then cut the lead to 4-2 in the top of the fifth before the Bloodhounds poured on seven runs over the next two innings, including two in the fifth and five in the sixth to take an 11-2 lead after six frames.

The Bloodhounds coasted from there in the win.

Lehman used five pitchers in the contest. Starter Dennis Shuwochow suffered the loss after going 3 2/3 innings and allowing three runs (two earned) on two hits and striking out three.

John Jay is back in action on Tuesday April 5 for a game at Ramapo College at 3:30 p.m.
