Baseball Falls at Ramapo College

Mahwah, N.J.— The John Jay baseball team saw its three game win streak come to an end on Tuesday afternoon as the Bloodhounds were defeated by Ramapo College 18-4 at Jeff Maund Memoral Field.

With the loss, John Jay is now 5-16 on the season.

The Bloodhounds were led designated hitter Frederick Rivera who was 3-for-4 and scored a run. Meanwhile Benjamin Beiro had a pair of hits and scored a run. Wilmer Chavez, the reigning CUNYAC Player of the Week, had a pair of runs batted in.

The host Roadrunners took the lead in the bottom of the second inning with six runs to go up 6-0 after two frames. Ramapo scored three more times in the fourth and were up 9-0 at that point.

The Bloodhounds dented into the lead with a three spot in the top of the fifth. A ground out by Cosme Munoz scored William Moran who led off the inning with a single. Then later, a two-run single by Chavez drove in Rivera and Dennis Lopez.

Ramapo then countered with four runs in the bottom half to lead 13-3. John Jay's only other run was scored came in the top of the sixth on a ground out by John Paul Zinser that scored Beiro.

The Roadrunners put two in the bottom of the sixth, two in the seventh and another in the eighth to round out the scoring.

Ramapo had seventeen hits and were led by Joseph Somma who was 4-for-5 with a double, two runs and three RBI. Christian Spurr was 2-for-3 with a homerun, a double, two runs and four RBI.

Ronald Barillas suffered the loss for John Jay after going 4 1/3 innings and allowing 12 runs (11 earned) on 10 hits.

John Jay returns to action on Wednesday April 6 for a game at SUNY Maritime at 3 p.m.
