Bronx, N.Y.— The John Jay softball team picked up its first two conference wins of the season on Thursday after sweeping Lehman College in a doubleheader 16-8 and 18-1. With the wins, the Bloodhounds improve to 5-7 overall and 2-2 in City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) play.

In the first game, the Bloodhounds won the game via the mercy rule in the sixth inning. A single by Krystal Class wrapped up the contest.

John Jay, playing as the home team on the Lehman College campus, took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on RBI singles by Christina Perez and Briggitte Martinez.

The Lightning struck for five runs in the top of the second to go up 5-2.

But John Jay plated nine runs in the second and four in the third to outscore Lehman 13-1 over those two innings to lead 15-6 after three frames.

Lehman scored once in the fourth and fifth innings, to pull to within seven runs before Class' hit in the bottom of the sixth secured the win.

The Bloodhounds pounded out 15 hits in game one, including four by Class and three by Martinez. Kalyssa Daley and Lana Kovac had two hits each for John Jay in the opening game.

In the second game, the Bloodhounds pounced all over Lehman from the get go, scoring 10 runs in the first three innings to lead 10-0. The Lightning's only run was in the top of the fourth, before John Jay scored eight more times in the bottom half to take a huge lead.

Nelly Vega led the way in the nightcap with four hits while hitting for the cycle (a single, double, triple and homerun).

Fellow teammates Class, Kovac and Kaitlyn Walsh had two hits each, while Walsh added four runs batted in.

All nine starters recorded at least one RBI in the win.

John Jay is back in action on Friday April 8 for a doubleheader at St. Joseph's-Long Island at 3:30 p.m.
