Softball Swept in Doubleheader at St. Joseph's-Long Island

Bellport, N.Y.— The John Jay softball team was defeated in a pair of non conference games to St. Joseph's-Long Island on Friday, losing 12-1 and 12-2.

With the losses, the Bloodhounds are now 5-9 on the season.

In game one, John Jay, who served as the home team batting in the bottom half of the innings, scored its lone run in the bottom of the first on a run scoring double by Christina Perez that scored Angela Lam who led off the bottom of the first with a double.

John Jay took its 1-0 lead into the third inning before the Golden Eagles scored two in the top of the third to take a 2-1 advantage. St. Joseph's-Long Island then scored a run each in the fourth and fifth innings before scoring four more in the sixth and another four in the seventh to finish out the game.

The Bloodhounds had five hits in game one and got a 2-for-3 performance from Lam, while Perez, Krystal Class and Kalyssa Daley had one hit each.

In the second game, the Golden Eagles scored five runs in the first and two in the second to take a 7-0 lead after one and a half innings.

John Jay's two runs came in the bottom of the fourth on back-to-back sacrifice fly's by Julia Goldberg and Kaitlyn Walsh.

The Bloodhounds had one hit in the nightcap and it came off the bat of Class who singled in the first inning.

St. Joseph's-Long Island scored one run in the fifth and four in the sixth before winning via the mercy rule in the sixth inning.

John Jay is back in action on Tuesday April 12 for a doubleheader against Hunter College at 3 p.m.
