Softball Falls in Two Against St. Joseph's-Brooklyn

Bellrose, N.Y.— The John Jay softball team was defeated in two games on Sunday afternoon as the Bloodhounds were swept in a doubleheader to St. Joseph's-Brooklyn 3-2 and 12-4.

In the first game, the host Bears took a 1-0 lead with a run in the bottom of the third inning,

The score remained 1-0 into the top of the sixth when the Bloodhounds scored two runs to leap ahead 2-1. In the inning, Krystal Class recorded a single to bring home Angela Lam. Then John Jay took the lead when Class scored on an error later in the frame.

The Bears tied the score with a run in the bottom of the sixth and won the game in walk off style with a one out bases loaded single.

John Jay had five hits in the opener and had two off the bat of Lam.

In the second game, St. Joseph's-Brooklyn took the lead with a run in the bottom of the first, before the Bloodhounds tied in the top of the third. Lam, who had another two hits in game two, singled in Marlin Rallas who was 2-for-3.

John Jay took the lead in the fourth inning with a pair of runs. Kaitlyn Walsh lifted a sacrifice fly to score Nelly Vega. Then after Julia Goldberg doubled with two outs, Rallas' second hit of the game drove in Goldberg.

But the Bears plated four runs in the bottom half to retake the lead. John Jay got one more run in the top of the sixth when Nelly Vega hit her second triple of the game, then scored on a wild pitch.

But St. Joseph's-Brooklyn scored a barrage of runs in the bottom of the sixth to win via the mercy rule.

John Jay will now play Brooklyn College in a play-in game of the 2011 CUNYAC softball championship.
