Utica, N.Y.— The John Jay baseball team was defeated in a high scoring affair in the Mohawk Valley section of upstate New York on Friday as the Bloodhounds lost 15-11 to Utica College.
With the loss, John Jay is now 9-29 overall this season with one game to go, a non conference affair at Farmingdale State on Saturday evening.
In the loss, the Bloodhounds pounded out 13 hits. They were led by
Wilmer Chavez, Ryan Corrigan,
Steven Kendrick,
Cosme Munoz and
John Paul Zinser with two hits each. Meanwhile Corrigan registered three runs batted in. Munoz and Frederick Rivera had a pair of RBI each.
John Jay struck early and scored five runs in the top of the first. Corrigan ripped a two run single to drive in the first two runs of the game.
But the host Pioneers came back with three in the bottom half of the frame as the high scoring game was just getting started. Utica took the lead with four runs in the bottom of the second and the score was 7-5 after just two innings.
John Jay scored two runs in the top of the third to tie the score. The Bloodhounds retook the lead in the top of the fourth with another four runs to go ahead 11-7. The inning was capped by a bases loaded walk by Rivera.
But Utica proceeded to outscore the Bloodhounds 8-0 over the final five plus innings to take the lead and ultimately win the game. The Pioneers scored a run in the fourth, four in the sixth, one in the seventh and two in the eighth. They recorded 15 hits in the game and had three players with three hits, including Adam Bittel, John Grogan and Nick Dunbar.
