Maspeth, N.Y.— The John Jay men's soccer team picked up its first win of the season as the Bloodhounds opened their conference schedule for 2011 with a  big win by knocking off Medgar Evers College 2-1 at the Metropolitan Oval on Wednesday afternoon.

The win improves John Jay to 1-6-1 (1-0-0 CUNYAC) this season, while Medgar Evers College falls to 0-6-0 (0-1-0 CUNYAC).

The Bloodhounds scored the first two goals of the game to take control of the game. John Jay got the scoring started in the ninth minute when Ganama Issouf hit the back of the mesh at 8:43 to put the Bloodhounds up 1-0.

Moments later, John Jay scored again as Korede Griffith netted a goal at the 17:32 marker.

The visiting Cougars cut the Bloodhound lead in half with a strike at the 21:10 mark by Stanley Ballantyne.

But that was all the scoring the game would see.

John Jay goalkeeper, Vitecha Kochaon and Medgar Evers goalkeeper, Christopher Welsh made four saves each in the game.

John Jay returns to action on Friday for a contest against SUNY Fredonia at 12 p.m. at the Metropolitan Oval.
