Maspeth, N.Y.— The John Jay women's soccer team got back on its winning ways on Wednesday afternoon as the Bloodhounds defeated York College 3-0 at the Metropolitan Oval.
With the win, the Bloodhounds improve to 4-4-0 (2-1-0 CUNYAC) this season, while York is now 1-4-0 (1-3-0 CUNYAC) in this their first year.
The host Bloodhounds dominated the entire contest from start to finish, keeping the ball in York territory most of the contest.
John Jay outshot the visiting Cardinals 26-6 overall, including a 13-0 advantage in the second half (John Jay held a 13-6 first half advantage on shots).
John Jay got all the scoring it proved it needed when
Jennifer Gomez fired a no doubter from in front of the net off a throw-in by
Alexis Ochoa at the 25:33 point of the first half. It was the only goal scored in the first half as John Jay went into halftime up 1-0.
Elder statesman,
Ariadna DiFabrizio, who played for the originally John Jay women's soccer team in 2005, scored her first goal since the 2005 season, when she netted a strike at the 51:32 marker of the contest to but the Bloodhounds up a pair.
Just under four minutes later, rookie
Bergelie Louis got a pass from DiFabrizio and beat her opponent to the ball before netting the breakaway goal to make the score 3-0.
The Bloodhounds were led in shots by Ochoa who took six, while
Stephannie Rengifo took five.
York was led by Carolina Munoz with three shots and York's only two fired on net.
Marcelina Kopec stopped two shots for her third shutout of the season.
John Jay returns to action on Friday September 23 at the College of Mount Saint Vincent at 8 p.m.
