Jamecia Forsythe had a monstrous game with 20 points, 20 rebounds, three assists and six blocks as the John Jay women's basketball team picked up its first conference win of the season with a 60-56 win over the City College of New York (CCNY) on Wednesday evening.
The win improves the Bloodhounds to 4-8 (1-3 CUNYAC) this season, while CCNY is now 2-12 (0-3 CUNYAC).
In addition to Forsythe's big game, the Bloodhounds had a solid performance by
Elizabeth Newton with 13 points and seven rebounds.
CCNY was led by Sajidah Pressley with 13 points, while teammate Alyssa Thompson had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
John Jay held the lead for most of the first half and had a nine point lead of 21-12 midway through the opening stanza.
But the host Beavers outscored the Bloodhounds 19-5 over the final nine plus minutes to take the lead and go into halftime up 31-26.
CCNY led by as much as 10 in the middle stages of the second half. Down 45-35, the Bloodhounds went on a 21-6 run to take a 56-51 lead late in the contest.
The Beavers pulled to within one point of the lead late in the contest. But clutch shooting by the Bloodhounds in the final moments preserved the win.
