Women's Basketball Defeats York in Conference Game

Jamaica, N.Y.— The John Jay women's basketball team earned its second consecutive overall and conference win on Wednesday night as the Bloodhounds beat York College 53-45 in Queens.
 
John Jay (5-9, 2-3 CUNYAC) was led by Jamecia Forsythe with 17 points and 20 rebounds. Her 20 rebound performance was the second consecutive game with 20 rebounds. Meanwhile Kelly Flowers and Tyana Hale added 10 points each in the win.
 
York was led by Shadae Rice with 12 points.
 
The swarming Bloodhound defense limited York to 26.6 percent shooting (17-for-65), and John Jay outscored the Cardinals 32-20 on points in the paint.
 
The first half was extremely close, and the first twenty minutes of the contest saw four lead changes and six ties. John Jay led at halftime 28-24.
 
In the second half, the Bloodhounds led almost the entire way. John Jay opened a seven point lead and was up 34-27.
 
But York rallied off seven straight to tie the score. The Cardinals took their first lead of the second half midway though and went ahead 39-38 with 10:45 to go.
 
John Jay quickly retook the lead and outscored York15-3 to take a 53-42 lead with one minute to go en route to the win.
