Staten Island, N.Y.— The John Jay women's basketball team was defeated by the College of Staten Island 61-42 on Saturday afternoon.
The Bloodhounds were led by
Jamecia Forsythe with a double-double of 18 points and 14 rebounds. Meanwhile fellow teammate
Elizabeth Newton came off the bench and had 11 rebounds as John Jay held a 51-33 edge in rebounding.
College of Staten Island was led Nikki Fabozzi with 19 points and five steals.
The first half was close the entire way. But despite the close score, the host Dolphins led throughout the first half and was up 26-22 at halftime.
The Dolphins opened the second half on an 8-0 run to take a 34-22 lead with 18:09 remaining.
CSI rapidly pulled away and led by as much as 29 as the Dolphins led 61-32 with 5:03 remaining.
John Jay would hold the Dolphins scoreless the rest of the way and close out the game on a 10-0 run to pull to within 19 when the game ended.
