Women’s Basketball Routes Medgar Evers

New York, N.Y.—The John Jay women's basketball team took a big lead early and dominated from start to finish as the Bloodhounds defeated Medgar Evers College, 84-31, in a conference game at the Doghouse on Friday evening.
 
The win improves the Bloodhounds to 6-11 (3-5 CUNYAC) this season, while Medgar Evers falls to 2-17 (0-8 CUNYAC) on the year.
 
The Bloodhounds scored the first eight points of the game to set the pace. John Jay continued its superior play and extended the game's opening run to 20-2 as the Bloodhounds led by that score with just over six minutes gone by.
 
The visiting Cougars mustered a 6-0 spurt to make the score 20-8. But John Jay never led by less than 12 the rest of the way. The Bloodhounds responded to the six point spurt with a 15-0 run that put John Jay ahead 35-8 with 2:31 to play, before going into halftime up 35-12.
 
The Bloodhounds gradually pulled away in the second half. They opened the final stanza on a 9-0 run to go ahead 44-12.
 
With the score 47-14, the Cougars went on a 9-0 run to pull to within 24 as the Bloodhounds led 47-23 with 12:43 left. But John Jay answered right back by leaving Medgar Evers scoreless over the final twelve plus minutes and ending the contest on a 37-0 run to win by 53.
 
The Bloodhounds dominated every aspect of the contest. They held a 42-14 advantage on points in the paint and outscored the Cougars 43-8 on points off turnovers.
 
John Jay was led by Tyana Hale with 30 points to go along with seven rebounds. Meanwhile Jamecia Forsythe added 13 points and nine rebounds. Danielle Eagan netted 12 while dishing out seven assists. Aneska Tejada had eight points and 10 rebounds.
 
Medgar Evers was led by Brittany Christie with 12 points, while Chantal Biscette added 10.
