Women’s Basketball Loses to SUNY Purchase

New York, N.Y.—In a rematch from a game three weeks ago, the Bloodhounds just missed getting payback as the John Jay women's basketball was defeated by SUNY Purchase 63-56 in a non conference match at the Doghouse on Monday evening.
 
The loss drops the Bloodhounds to 6-12 overall, while SUNY Purchase improves to 6-11 this season.
 
John Jay was led by Jamecia Forsythe with 15 points, eight rebounds, five steals and five blocks and was the lone Bloodhound to score in double figures. Meanwhile Elizabeth Newton added nine points and eight rebounds in the contest.
 
SUNY Purchase was led by Alyssa Guido with 29 points and five steals.
 
The game was close from start to finish with neither team leading by more than six in the first half. The contest saw five ties and five lead changes in the first half en route to a tie score at halftime at 36-36.
 
The Bloodhounds opened play in the second half on a 7-1 run to take a 43-37 lead.
 
John Jay maintained a narrow lead until the Panthers tied the score at 44 with 11:13 to play. Moments later, SUNY Purchase took the lead via a 7-0 run that put the Panthers up 49-44 midway through the second half.
 
SUNY Purchase managed to hold the lead the rest of the way. The Panthers opened a nine point lead and were up 58-49 with 5:08 to play.
 
John Jay got to within as little as six, but never closer. The Bloodhounds were down 60-54 and could have edged closer, but missed two shots over a minute and a half span. Then the Panthers connected on a free throw with 1:03 to go to back up by seven. Then John Jay committed a turnover and a missed jumper before SUNY Purchase made two more free throws with twenty-three seconds left to go up buy nine and put the game out of reach.
