New York, N.Y.—The John Jay women's basketball team lost a home conference game to Lehman College 72-48 on Friday evening.
With the loss, the Bloodhounds (3-7, 0-3 CUNYAC) are still in search of their first win in CUNYAC play this season. Lehman improves to 7-7 (2-1 CUNYAC).
John Jay was led by
Danielle Eagan with 14 points, to go along with six rebounds, two assists and two steals. The Bloodhounds also got double figures in scoring from
Tyana Hale and
Jamecia Forsythe. Hale netted 12 points and had five rebounds, while Forsythe had a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds. She also blocked three shots.
Lehman was led by two players with double-doubles as Jaleesa Gordon had game-highs of 25 points and 12 rebounds, while Leslie Mencia had 18 points, 11 rebounds and four assists.
The visiting Lightning opened the game on a 10-0 run and led from start to finish.
While up 16-6, Lehman used an 11-0 run to take a 27-6 lead with 10:34 to play. The 21-point lead was the biggest in the half for the Lightning as the Bloodhounds stayed within a distant striking range. After falling behind by 21, the Bloodhounds cut it to 13 with an 8-0 run to make the score 27-14 with 8:35 to play.
Nursing a nice lead the rest of the first half, Lehman closed out the opening stanza on an 8-0 run to go back up by 21 as the Lightning led 41-20 at the break.
John Jay got within 19 points of the lead early in the second half and were down 43-24 with 16:45 left. But the Lightning struck away and led by twenty plus the rest of the way until the final buzzer.
Lehman held a 36-18 lead on points in the paint. The points off turnovers were close, with Lehman holding a slim edge 26-24. The Lightning shot 43.5 percent (27-for-62) from the field, while the Bloodhounds connected on 28.3 percent (17-for-60).
John Jay returns to action on Monday January 9 for a game at SUNY Purchase at 5 p.m.
