Men's Soccer Closes Out CUNYAC Regular Season with Loss to Brooklyn

BROOKLYN, N.Y.— The John Jay men's soccer team lost on the road Saturday afternoon losing to Brooklyn College 5-3.
 
With the loss, the Bloodhounds end its City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) regular season record at 4-2-2, and they officially lost all chance of a first place finish this season. Brooklyn improves to 4-1-2 in CUNYAC this season.
 
The match was evenly played statistically with both teams recording 19 shots, including 11 each in the first half and eight in the second half.
 
The host Bulldogs scored their first goal of the game less than three minutes into the contest when Dmitry Prokofyev scored at the 2:59 marker.
 
John Jay evened the score eight minutes later when senior Ratko Rakocevic netted a goal off a corner kick at 11:05.
 
But Brooklyn took another lead four minutes later on a score by Alwyn Adams, his first of thee on the day, at 15:04. Then the Bulldogs scored again at the 39:02 mark of the game on a strike by Pajtim Gjonbalaj.
 
After Brooklyn took a 3-1 lead at halftime, John Jay scored its second goal of the game to pull to within a goal as Justin Osorio capitalized on a penalty kick at 67:31.
 
But the Bulldogs, behind two more goals from Adams, put the game out of reach.  His second goal of the game came at 72:07 put Brooklyn back up a pair, then the next goal came at 88:24 to give his team a 5-2 advantage with less than two minutes to play.
 
John Jay scored the last goal of the game when Korede Griffith netted his team-leading sixth goal of the season off a free kick from Nermin Kurtesi at the 88:41 mark.
 
Starting John Jay goalkeeper Vitecha Kochaon made four saves in net, while Brooklyn's Stamatis Boundouris stopped 10 shots.
 
John Jay returns to action on Monday Oct. 15 for a match at Richard Stockton College at 7 p.m.
