Men's Soccer Strolls to Easy Win against St. Joseph's-Brooklyn

MASPETH, N.Y.—The John Jay men's soccer team closed out its 2012 regular season schedule by dominating its opponent in a 9-1 victory over St. Joseph's-Brooklyn at the Metropolitan Oval on Friday afternoon.
 
With the win, John Jay ends its regular season with a 6-9-3 overall record. St. Joseph's-Brooklyn falls to 1-8 this season.
 
The Bloodhounds dominated the contest from start to finish. They took shot after shot and held the ball in St. Joseph's-Brooklyn's end of the field the majority of the time. But despite the fast start and dominating effort by John Jay, the score was 0-0 through the first twenty minutes. The Bloodhounds fired several shots that went high and wide of the net as the game remained scoreless in the early going.
 
John Jay finally got a goal at the 20:42 mark on a score by Kareem Roberts, his second of the season.  Korede Griffith, who had four assists in the win, and Christian Munoz offered assists. Then at 34:01 Jesus Lugo netted a goal with helpers coming from Griffith and Roberts.
 
The game went into halftime with the Bloodhounds up 2-0. Through the first forty-five minutes, the Bloodhounds outshot the visiting Bears 17-2.
 
In the second half, the Bloodhounds finally wore down the Bears, who suited up 12 players for the game, and had a seven goal barrage off the reeling St. Joseph's-Brooklyn.  John Jay's first strike of the second stanza came from Yotam Bloom, 5:11 into the half, with Griffith getting his third assist of the game. Justin Osorio earned the other assist. Then forty-four seconds later, Nermin Kurtesi scored to make the tally 5-0.
 
Then two minutes later, the shell-shocked Bears knocked the ball into their own net which gave John Jay a 6-0 lead.
 
Then at the start of the sixtieth minute Munoz knocked in a goal off a feed from Brian Cassidy. Then a mere 1:13 later, John Jay scored again when Kurtesi netted his second goal of the game to put John Jay ahead 8-0.
 
St. Joseph's-Brooklyn then got on the board with a goal coming off a free kick by Matthew O'Neal.
 
But John Jay scored once more in the seventy-ninth minute with a goal by Steven Torres at 78:32 off a perfect pass from Navid Allah Morad.
 
Overall, John Jay outshot the Bears 33-5. The Bloodhounds were whistled offsides 14 times compared to five times for St. Joseph's-Brooklyn.
