MASPETH, N.Y.— The John Jay women's soccer team was defeated by Rutgers-Newark, 6-0, in a non conference game at the Metropolitan Oval on Monday evening.
The loss is John Jay's third in a row as the Bloodhounds fall to 4-9-0 overall this season. Rutgers-Newark improves to 2-11-1 on the season.
The visiting Scarlet Raiders scored three goals in the first half and three more in the second for the six goal win.
Rutgers-Newark came out attacking from the outset with plenty of shots. But strong John Jay defense early in the contest, backed by strong goalkeeping by the Bloodhounds, kept the score within reach as Rutgers-Newark managed one goal through the first thirty-eight minutes. The Scarlet-Raiders took a 1-0 lead 16:16 into the contest on a goal by Valentina Palchetti.
The score remained 1-0 for most of the first half. John Jay had a chance to tie the score midway through the stanza, as the speedy
Bergelie Louis beat her defender to the ball, but knocked the shot just wide of the net.
Rutgers-Newark's second goal came at the 38:39 mark on a score by Renae McEvoy to put the Scarlet-Raiders up 2-0. Then with one second before halftime, the Scarlet Raiders scored their third goal of the half as McEvoy scored again to put Rutgers-Newark up 3-0.
Rutgers-Newark outshot John Jay 25-2 in the first half, and the Scarlet Raiders attempted six corner kicks to just one for the Bloodhounds through the first forty-five minutes.
In the second half, Rutgers-Newark's Cristina Estremera scored the first two goals of the stanza to put the visiting team up 5-0. The first goal was scored at 57:46 and the other at 70:57 with McEvoy getting assists on both. The final goal of the night was scored by Megan Hadfield to make the score 6-0 with 11:08 to go.
The Scarlet Raiders outshot John Jay 44-4 overall.

Andrea Antoni made 18 saves in the contest, while Mercedes Lois and Kelsey Benoit made one save each in net for Rutgers-Newark.
John Jay is back in action on Sat. Oct. 13 at Lehman College at 12 p.m.
