Camden, N.J.— The John Jay men's tennis team lost its 2012 season opener on Monday as the Bloodhounds were defeated by Rutgers-Camden 7-2.
While the Bloodhounds were defeated, junior
Erkut Cakmak had a successful opening match, winning at No. 1 singles (6-0, 6-2), while the Bloodhounds other win was at No. 1 doubles where Cakmak and
Stephen Walz were 8-4 winners.
At No. 2 singles,
Luis Chirinos was a 6-1, 6-1 loser to Ryan Airo. At No. 3 singles,
Andreas Pantaloukas lost 6-0, 6-1 to Aaron Harmon. At the No. 4 singles spot, Walz was defeated by Nick Shepard 6-3, 6-4, while at No. 5
Kelvin Rodriguez lost 6-4, 6-4 to Ken Stubblefield. Then at No. 6,
Frantisek Demek lost to Steven Nguyen 6-3, 7-5 (7-4).
In doubles play, at No. 2, Pantaloukas and Rodriguez lost a close 8-6 match to Harman and Stubblefield, while at No. 3 Chirinos and Demek lost to Shepard and Ravi Trivedi 8-2.
