Fishkill, N.Y.— The John Jay baseball team lost another non conference game on Tuesday afternoon as the Bloodhounds lost to the College of Mount Saint Mary (CMSM) 9-5 at Dutchess Stadium.
With the loss, the Bloodhounds fall to 4-15 this season. CMSM is now 7-5.
Trouble began early for the Bloodhounds as the host Blue Knights jumped over ace pitcher
Braylin Perez with four runs in the bottom of the first to go ahead 4-0 after one inning.
CMSM maintained the four run lead into the fourth inning when the Bloodhounds got on the board.
Ronald Barillas laced a double down the leftfield line to score
Steven Caracena who led off the inning with a hit.
The Bloodhounds scored again in the top of the sixth to make the score 4-2 when
Nestor Amarante scorched a run scoring single to drive home
Pedro Acosta who singled to lead off the frame.
But fielding woes set upon John Jay who allowed five runs (all unearned) over the seventh and eighth innings as the Blue Knights benefitted with insurance.
CMSM scored a run in the seventh to go ahead 5-2 and four in the eighth to lead 9-4 after eight innings.
John Jay's two runs in the eighth came first on an RBI groundout by Amarante that scored Caracena. Then the next batter,
Eddie Montanez, registered a single that scored
Brian McKenna.
The Bloodhounds edged a little closer in the ninth with another run before it ended. A run scoring single by Caracena scored
Yahnny Arias who led off the inning by reaching first after striking out on a wild pitch.
The Bloodhounds outhit the Blue Knights 11-10 and got three hits from Amarante who was 3-for-5 with two RBI. Meanwhile Caracena and Barillas had two hits each.
Owen Kimmel pitched two innings of shutout baseball in relief before giving way to
Mark Marte who allowed no earned runs (five unearned) over the latter fiving innings of the contest.
John Conroy had a big game for the hosts with a 4-for-4 performance with two runs and an RBI, while Michael Morelli and Vinnie Carminati had two hits each for CMSM.
Justin Christensen picked up the win after going 5.1 innings and allowing two runs on nine hits.
