Baseball Loses Two against Baruch

Bronx, N.Y.— The John Jay baseball team was swept in a conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon as the Bloodhounds were defeated by Baruch College in two games, losing the first 5-0 and the second 8-5.
 
In game one, the Bloodhounds were limited to three hits in the shutout defeat. Ronald Barillas, Owen Kimmel and Billy Moran had one hit each in the contest.
 
The host Bearcats scored two runs in the bottom of the first to take a 2-0 lead. Baruch scored another in the third to go ahead 3-0. Then a two run fifth extended the Baruch lead to 5-0, the final score.
 
Braylin Perez suffered the loss after going seven full innings and allowing five runs on five hits with four strikeouts.
 
Baruch's Paul Perez earned the complete game win by tossing seven shutout innings and limiting John Jay to three hits. He struck out five in the game.
 
The Bearcats had five hits and were led by a 2-for-3 performance by Alvin Mata who scored three of the five Baruch runs.
 
In game two, Baruch scored a run in the bottom of the first and two more in the third to lead 3-0 early.
 
John Jay's first two runs of the day came in the top of the fourth. Brian McKenna scored on a throwing error by Baruch for the first run. then Moran scored on an RBI single by Eddie Montanez to make the score 3-2.
 
But a five run fifth inning by Baruch broke the game open as the Bearcats led 8-2 after five innings.
 
John Jay did not go down quietly though. Known for their patented never say die attitude, the Bloodhounds managed five runs to put a huge scare into Baurch before running out of gas.
 
Erik Pratz led the Bloodhounds with two hits and was 2-for-4 with a double and a run. Cosme Munoz had two runs batted in in game two.
