Baseball Loses to William Paterson in Football Like Score

Wayne, N.J.— John Jay and William Paterson University combined for 48 runs in seven innings, but  the Bloodhounds fell on the short end as John Jay fell to the Pioneers 31-17 on Wednesday afternoon.
 
In what was the highest scoring game of the season, the two schools combined for 40 hits with William Paterson hammering out 26 hits and John Jay with 14.
 
John Jay had a big game from Pedro Acosta who was 4-for-5 with a double, a run and four runs batted in. Yahnny Arias had a multi hit game as well going 3-for-4 with four runs and a run batted in. Billy Moran was 2-for-2 with two runs and two runs batted in.
 
William Paterson scored seven runs in the bottom of the first inning to go ahead 7-0. The Pioneers scored at least two runs in each inning, including 10 in the fifth.
 
John Jay was down 16-2 headed into the top of the fifth before the Bloodhounds came alive. John Jay put up six runs in the top of the fifth to cut the deficit in half as the Bloodhounds trailed 16-8.
 
But the Pioneers responded to that but getting 10 runs across in the bottom half to take a 26-8 lead. John Jay kept up the offense in the top of the sixth with nine runs to make the score 26-17.
 
The Pioneers scored five more runs in the bottom of the sixth to round out the scoring.
 
Jack Montanile had a big game for William Paterson, going 4-for-5 with three doubles, a triple, three runs and five runs batted in. A.J. Flores went 5-for-6 with a double, triple, five runs and four runs batted in.
