Box Score Madison, N.J.— The John Jay baseball team picked up its second win of the season on Tuesday as the Bloodhounds defeated Drew University 7-1 in a six inning game that was stopped in the middle of the seventh due to darkness.
Braylin Perez pitched a masterpiece as he went six full innings and allowed a run on two hits and struck out eight batters.
John Jay recorded eight hits including two from
Yahnny Arias who was 2-for-3 with a double and a run batted in. Seven of the nine members of the batting order had at least one hit.
After a scoreless first three innings, the Bloodhounds broke out for three runs in the top of the fourth. John Jay got the scoring started when
Nestor Amarante scored on a fieder's choice grounder by
Nick Hoyte. Later in the inning,
Rafael Rodriguez scored from second on an Arias double. Then
Corry Harper scored an unearned run when he scored as
Pedro Acosta reached on a Drew error. Drew committed seven errors on the afternoon leading to a pair of unearned Bloodhound runs.
The host Rangers scored their lone run in the bottom of the third to make the score 3-1. Then John Jay scored two more runs in the fifth and another two in the sixth to break the game open.
In the fifth Amarante, who reached on an error, scored from third on another error with Harper at the plate. Then Hoyte, who reached base three times, scored on an RBI single by
Ronald Barillas.
Then in the sixth, a base hit by Amarante scored
Brian McKenna who reached base with a one out double. Then
Steven Caracena came into score when Rodriguez reached on an error with two outs.
Drew's two hits were singles that came off the bat of Dominic Reyes in the fourth and Drew Obergfell in the fifth.
Ken Myers suffered the loss for the Rangers after going 4.0 innings and allowing three runs (two earned) on two hits.
