Camden, N.J.— The John Jay baseball team was defeated in a seven inning contest on Wednesday afternoon as the Bloodhounds were defeated by Rutgers-Camden 6-3 at Campbell's Stadium.
The loss drops the Bloodhounds' record to 2-8 overall this season.
John Jay pounded out 11 hits in the contest and outhit the opposition 11-7.
Steven Caracena led the Bloodhounds with three hits (3-for-4) and two runs batted in. Fellow teammates
Yahnny Arias,
Erik Pratz and
Justin Martinez had a pair of hits each in the contest.
The host Scarlet Raptors scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning to go up 3-0. The Bloodhounds got on the board with a run in the top of the fourth when
Cosme Munoz walked with the bases loaded to force home Arias, who led off the inning with a single.
Rutgers-Camden took the 3-1 lead into the bottom of the sixth when the Scarlet Raptors tacked on three more to move ahead by five.
But John Jay went down fighting. A one out single by Caracena knocked in a pair of runs as Arias and Pratz motored home to cut the lead in half.
The Bloodhounds though left the bases loaded in the top of the seventh and could do no further damage as Rutgers-Camden held on for the win.
Rutgers-Camden had a big day from Connor Collins who went 2-for-2 with two doubles, two runs and four runs batted in.
Justin Arias suffered the loss for John Jay. He went 5.1 innings and allowed six runs (five earned) on seven hits and struck out two.
John Jay returns to action on Saturday for a doubleheader at Stevens Institute of Technology at 2 p.m.
