Baseball Loses Both Games of Doubleheader at Arcadia University

Philadelphia, Pa.— The John Jay baseball team was swept in a doubleheader by Arcadia University, losing the first game 8-1 and the second game 12-8 on Saturday afternoon.
 
John Jay is now 7-25 this season.
 
In the first game, the Bloodhounds lone run came in the top of the first. Yahnny Arias led off the game with a triple, then scored on an RBI groundout by Owen Kimmel. The run gave John Jay a 1-0 lead early in the contest.
 
The Bloodhounds kept the 1-0 lead into the third inning when the host Knights scored a pair of runs to take the lead. Arcadia proceeded to score two more in the fifth and four in the sixth for an 8-1 lead en route to the win.
 
John Jay had five hits in the game including one each by Arias, Corry Harper, Eddie Montanez, Nestor Amarante and Leo Espinal.
 
Arcadia's Justin Simpson had three hits in the first game and scored three times.
 
Braylin Perez suffered the loss after going five innings and allowing five runs (three earned) on seven hits. He struck out four.
 
Steve Romand earned the game one win for the Knights after going the distance and allowing a run on five hits with four strikeouts.
 
In the second game, Arcadia established a 12-1 lead after six innings to take control of the contest. John Jay though made a massive run in the top of the seventh inning to make a game of it in the end. The Bloodhounds plated seven runs and sent 12 batters to the plate.
 
But the 11-run deficit heading into the last inning proved too much to overcome as the Knights held on.
 
The Bloodhounds were led in game two by Arias who went 2-for-4 with a double, a run and two runs batted in. Rafael Rodriguez was 1-for-1 with two walks, a double, two runs and two runs batted in.
 
Harper took the loss. He went 3.2 innings and allowed eight runs on six hits.
 
Jay Zehring had a huge game for the Knights in game two. He went 2-for-3 with a double, a homerun. He scored twice and had six runs batted in. Simpson also had a solid game two, going 3-for-4 with two runs and a run batted in.
 
John Jay returns to action on Tuesday for a game against St. Joseph's-Brooklyn at MCU Park at 3:30 p.m.
