Bronx, N.Y.— The John Jay men's tennis team improved to 6-3 overall and remained perfect in conference play as John Jay men's tennis defeated Hunter College 6-3 at the Lehman College Tennis Courts on Saturday morning.
With the win, the Bloodhounds are now 5-0 in CUNYAC play this season with a pair of matches remaining, including a match with Baruch College on Tuesday and the College of Staten Island on Thursday. Hunter ends its conference regular season with a 5-2 reocrd.
The Bloodhounds dominated at No. 1 doubles, as the team of
Erkut Cakmak and
Stephen Walz earned an 8-2 win over Arthur Kapetanakis and Stanislav Tsoy of Hunter. Meanwhile, at No. 3 doubles,
Luis Chirinos and
Frantisek Demek picked up an 8-2 win over Hunter's team of Bob Frischling-Sosma and Binh Luu. Hunter's only win in doubles play was at No. 2 where Hunter's team of Damen Ellington and Irving Salazaar edged
Kelvin Rodriguez and
Andreas Pantaloukas 9-7.
In singles play, CUNYAC Player of the Year hopeful, Cakmak dominated No. 1 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Kapetanakis. Moments later Walz won at No. 5, 6-1, 6-2 over Tsoy. The Bloodhounds officially earned the win when Rodriguez cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 4 singles.
With the Bloodhounds ahead 5-1, Hunter earned wins at No. 2 singles and No. 3 singles. Hunter's Ellington was a three set winner over Pantaloukas at No. 2, 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 (7-5). Then Frischling-Sosma defeated Chirinos at No. 3, 6-2, 6-1. Then John Jay wrapped up the match with the Bloodhounds' Demek winning 6-4, 6-4 over Luu.
