Brooklyn, N.Y.— The John Jay baseball team played St. Joseph's-Brooklyn to a classic pitcher's duel on Tuesday afternoon, but came up just short of a 2-1 decision at MCU Park.

John Jay is now 7-26 this season, while St. Joseph's-Brooklyn is now 14-15 overall.

The Bloodhounds' lone run came in the bottom of the second inning on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Leo Espinal that scored Brian McKenna.

The run gave the Bloodhounds a 1-0 lead, a lead they held into the seventh inning, when the visiting Bears plated two across to take a 2-1 lead. Two John Jay errors in the inning contributed to the second run being unearned.

Meanwhile, St. Joseph's-Brooklyn starting pitcher Paul Piccirillo pitched outstanding en route to earning his eighth win of the season and improving to 8-0 overall. He pitched nine innings and allowed one run on four hits, and he stuck out 11 batters. He kept the Bloodhounds to no hits over the final five innings.

John Jay reliever Mark Marte suffered the loss after pitching four innings of relief and allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits with one strikeout.

Braylin Perez started the game and went 5.0 innings and shutout the Bears on three hits with six strikeouts.

The one run loss by the Bloodhounds was the fifth one run loss for John Jay this season. They are 0-5 in games decided by one run.
