Men's Tennis Defeats York in Quarterfinals

Flushing, N.Y.— The No. 2 seeded John Jay men's tennis team coasted to victory, winning 5-0 over No. 7 York College in the quarterfinal round of the 2012 CUNYAC / HSS men's tennis championship.
 
With the victory, the Bloodhounds advance into the semifinal round on Sunday where they will play No. 3 seed Hunter College at 1 p.m. at the USTA National Tennis Center.
 
John Jay earned three wins in doubles play, earning victories of 8-2 at No. 1, 8-4 at No. 2 and 8-3 at No.3 to take a 3-0 lead early on.
 
At No. 1 doubles, Erkut Cakmak and Stephen Walz defeated York's Ayman Busat and Gary Reynoso. At second doubles, Kelvin Rodriguez and Andreas Pantaloukas won over the York duo of Iheanyi Agbor and Kalsang and Chhosphel. Then at No. 3, Frantisek Demek and Luis Chirinos beat Justin Mo and Timoteo Baltazar.
 
In singles play, Cakmak won at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-0 against Busat to give John Jay a 4-0 lead. Then the Bloodhounds chalked up the win when Rodriguez at No. 4 was victorious 6-1, 6-0 over Mo.
