Brooklyn, N.Y.— The John Jay men's tennis team remains undefeated in conference play and improved to 3-3 overall this season after an 8-1 win over Brooklyn College on Thursday afternoon.
John Jay is now 2-0 in conference play this season, while Brooklyn fell to 1-7 (0-5 CUNYAC) this season.
The Bloodhounds lone blemish was at No. 1 doubles, where John Jay was defeated 9-8 (7-1). Meanwhile, John Jay was an 8-1 winner at No. 2 doubles, and 8-4 victors at No. 3 doubles.
At No. 1 doubles, Erkuk Cakmak and
Stephen Walz lost to Anthony Chan and Matthew Micharlsen of Brooklyn. At No. 2 doubles,
Andreas Pantaloukas and
Kelvin Rodriguez won 8-1 over Robin Varughese and Anthony Sideris. And at the No. 3 flight, it was
Luis Chirinos and
Frantisek Demek 8-4 winners over Marvin Gill and Yeshen Shang.
In singles play, Cakmak improved to 5-0 at the No. 1 spot with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Micharlsen. At No. 2, it was Pantaloukas earning a 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 win over Chan. At No. 3, Chirinos beat Michael Martone of Brooklyn in a three set match, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2. Walz was a winner at No. 4 with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Varughese. At No. 5, Rodriguez won 6-1, 6-0 over Gill. Finally at No. 6, Demek beat Deshi Wu, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3.
