Staten Island, N.Y.— The John Jay baseball team split a critical doubleheader on Friday afternoon with the College of Staten Island as the Bloodhounds beat the Dolphins 7-2 in the first game, before losing a 4-3 heartbreaker in the second game at the CSI Baseball Complex.
With the split, the Bloodhounds remain at .500 on the season in City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) play with a 4-4 record, while CSI is now 5-1 in CUNYAC this season.
In the game one win, the Bloodhounds scored four runs in the top of the second and three in the top of the sixth to take a 7-0 lead after five and a half innings. The Dolphins broke up the shutout bid with a run in the bottom of the sixth before scoring again in the bottom of the seventh before the game ended.

In the second game, starting pitcher

But CSI broke through with a run in the bottom of the fifth on a two-out single to right field by Dan Lynch that scored Will Difede for the first run of the second game.
The Bloodhounds answered the call in the top of the sixth to tie the score.
Billy Moran, who had two hits in the second game, reached on an infield hit to drive home Barillas, who reached on a fielder's choice then stole second and third on the base paths.
John Jay then scored twice more in the top of the seventh to take a 3-1 lead. The inning was capped on a two-out single by Moran to score
Corry Harper.
But CSI averted a sweep with three runs in the bottom of the seventh to win the game. Two John Jay errors permitted three Dolphins runs to come across as CSI won in walkoff fashion.
Marte suffered the loss. He pitched a solid 6.1 innings and allowed four runs (two earned) on five hits, and he fanned three batters.
John Jay and CSI will play again on Saturday in a non conference game at MCU Park.
