Women's Soccer Loses in 2012 Season Opener

Canton, N.Y.— The John Jay women's soccer team wasted no time jumping into the fire against elite competition as the Bloodhounds opened their 2012 season with a 10-0 loss at St. Lawrence University in the opening game of the North Country / Lotto Women's Soccer Classic on Saturday.
 
The Bloodhounds, who have 16 first year players on its 2012 roster, failed to register a shot in the contest and were outshot 45-0 in the game, including 38-0 in the first half.
 
St. Lawrence scored what proved to be the game winning goal just 1:54 into the contest. The host Saints scored seven more in the half to take an 8-0 lead at halftime.
 
St. Lawrence was led by Julia Friesen with three goals and one assist, while Erika Gobielle had a pair of goals.
 
John Jay starting goalkeeper Katelyn Davis played the first 57:51 of the contest and made eight saves and allowed eight goals in her college debut game.  Reserve goalkeeper Andrea Antoni made two saves while playing the final 32:09.
 
The Bloodhounds are back in action on Sunday with a game against Clarkson University at 11 a.m.
