Canton, N.Y.— The John Jay women's soccer team wasted no time jumping into the fire against elite competition as the Bloodhounds opened their 2012 season with a 10-0 loss at St. Lawrence University in the opening game of the North Country / Lotto Women's Soccer Classic on Saturday.
The Bloodhounds, who have 16 first year players on its 2012 roster, failed to register a shot in the contest and were outshot 45-0 in the game, including 38-0 in the first half.
St. Lawrence scored what proved to be the game winning goal just 1:54 into the contest. The host Saints scored seven more in the half to take an 8-0 lead at halftime.
St. Lawrence was led by Julia Friesen with three goals and one assist, while Erika Gobielle had a pair of goals.

Katelyn Davis played the first 57:51 of the contest and made eight saves and allowed eight goals in her college debut game. Reserve goalkeeper
Andrea Antoni made two saves while playing the final 32:09.
The Bloodhounds are back in action on Sunday with a game against Clarkson University at 11 a.m.
