Men's Soccer Duels to Scoreless Tie with Baruch

MASPETH, N.Y.— John Jay and Baruch College fought valiantly with each other for 110 minutes before time expired as the Bloodhounds and Bearcats battled to a scoreless tie in men's soccer at the Metropolitan Oval on Saturday afternoon.
 
With the tie, John Jay remains unbeaten in conference play this season with a 1-0-2 CUNYAC record, while Baruch is now 0-0-2 in CUNYAC.
 
Despite the scoreless game, the contest saw several golden opportunities for both teams. The best opportunity for either side came for Baruch in the first overtime. Baruch's Daniel Goldberg blasted a shot that was stopped by John Jay goalkeeper, Vitecha Kochaon. But Baruch got the loose ball rebound and Bearcat member Akil George attempted to put home the second attempt, which appeared to be headed in, but John Jay defenseman, William Ortiz got in front of the goal to preserve the scoreless game.
 
Earlier in the game, John Jay's Navid Allah Morad had a breakaway attempt and fired  a point blank shot from less than three yards out that was denied by Baruch goalkeeper Helder Correia.
 
The two teams combined for 16 saves. Kochaon made eight saves, while the John Jay defense stopped an additional two, including Ortiz's save in overtime. Correia made six saves for the Bearcats.
 
Baruch held an 18-13 advantage in shots. Allah Morad fired six shots, including four on goal for John Jay, while George and Oren Kozlowski had four shots each. George had three on goal.
 
The visiting Bearcats attempted 13 corner kicks, including nine in the first half, while John Jay attempted three.
 
John Jay returns to action this Wednesday for a game against the City College of New York.
