MASPETH, N.Y.— In a rematch of last season's City University of New York Athletic Conference semifinals game (which the Bloodhounds won on penalty kicks), the John Jay women's soccer team was defeated by the City College of New York (CCNY) 2-0 at the Metropolitan Oval on Wednesday evening.
With the loss, John Jay's undefeated conference record snaps as the Bloodhounds are 2-1 in CUNYAC play (4-6 overall), while CCNY is 7-1 (2-0 CUNYAC).
The visiting Beavers attacked the net frequently in the first half as CCNY outshot John Jay 13-1 through the first 45 minutes of play (and 18-2 overall).
Despite the heavy dosage of Beaver shooting, the game remained deadlocked at 0-0 until the final few minutes of the first half. CCNY broke the scoreless tie on a goal by Paola Ramos with just under five minutes remaining in the first half.
In the second half, CCNY struck again when Dzindzi Asamoah-Wade netted a goal at 68:39 to go up a pair.
The Bloodhounds recorded one shot on net, which was recorded by
Bergelie Louis in the second half.
Andrea Antoni made seven saves in net for the Bloodhounds, while CCNY's Nicole Carroll made one.
John Jay returns to action on Sat. Sept. 29 for a game at Lehman College in a non conference game at 12 p.m.
