THROGGS NECK, N.Y.— Behind a pair of second half goals from reigning CUNYAC Rookie of the Year,
Bergelie Louis, the John Jay women's soccer team earned its first win of the season as the Bloodhounds defeated SUNY Maritime 2-0 on Wednesday afternoon.
The win improves the Bloodhounds to 1-2-0 overall this season.
After a scoreless first half, Louis scored her first goal of the game and season in the 66th minute off a pass from freshman teammate
Samantha Pedraza. Then just under seven minutes later, Louis scored again, this time off a feed from
Samantha Guillen to put John Jay up a pair en route to the shutout.
Freshman goalkeeper,
Andrea Antoni, who made an incredible 22 saves on Sunday against Clarkson University, made five against the host Privateers for her first NCAA shutout.
SUNY Maritime held a slim 12-10 edge in overall shots and held a 6-1 advantage on corner kick attempts.
Louis blasted a game-high seven shots for the Bloodhounds who were held without a shot in both games at St. Lawrence last weekend.
Samantha Guillen recorded two shots, while
Stephannie Rengifo had one.
The Privateers got four shots from Jackie Bellisari, while teammate Leanne Lavelle had three.
John Jay is back in action on Saturday for its 2012 home opener against NYU-Polytechnic at 12 p.m.
