NEW YORK, N.Y.— The John Jay women's swimming team has announced it will be headed to Puerto Rico for four days of training as the Bloodhounds will practice in San Juan, the capital city, from Jan. 16 through 19 for a winter training trip.
“We are so excited for this trip. The team has worked so hard and their hard work and commitment to each other has helped make this a reality,” said women's swimming coach Jessica Kolackovsky. “This trip will be great for them, the opportunity to travel and train, they have worked so hard for this.”
The Bloodhounds will practice twice a day in the pool for two hours each time, plus the team will participate in various out of pool workouts, including weight lifting, beach workouts, land workouts and yoga. The Bloodhounds also anticipate a tour San Juan during their stay.
The Bloodhounds will train in two outdoor fifty meter pools, including the state of the art San Juan Natatorium.
During the trip, the team will keep all interested fans updated with a daily blog. Each day one team member will post an update, include one each from
Mollie DeMeio,
Jezebel Erazo,
Laura Galeano and
Vanessa Toro-Plaza.
Under head coach Jessica Kolackovsky, the John Jay women's swimming team has come to new heights. After a winless 2008-09 season, her first year at the helm, the Bloodhounds have improved each season, including an above .500 record for the first time ever in team history when they finished 6-3. The team also finished third at the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) championship meet last season, its best finish since 2006.
The Bloodhounds, who raised all funds for the entire trip through bake sales, solicitation letters, t-shirt sales and apparel sales, will utilize All Sports International, a full service sports tour operator who specializes in collegiate sports travel for numerous NCAA Division I, II and III schools. The idea of the trip was spearheaded by last season's team captains.
