Box Score The men's soccer team defeated Hunter College, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon at Randall's Island. With the win, the Bloodhounds improve to 3-13-1 overall (3-4 in CUNYAC) and the Hawks fall to 2-14 (2-5 in CUNYAC).
Freshman
Omer Abdella opened up the scoring three minutes into the match when he received a pass from senior
Besian Shala and ripped a shot from 15 yards out past the Hunter goalkeeper. However, the Hawks responded a minute later when Brandon Fiscina scored to tie the game up at one. There was no more scoring in the half and the Bloodhounds outshot the Hawks, 8-6.
In the second half, John Jay intensified the pressure by firing shots at all angles. Both goalkeepers kept their team in the game by preventing any balls from crossing the goal line. For the first forty minutes of the half, neither team was able to take a lead. However, with less than three minutes remaining in the match, freshman
Alexis Bustillo found Abdella, who scored on a shot from five yards out. That was all John Jay needed as they took the conference win.
Junior
Vitecha Kochaon made three saves. Junior
Drew Guerra recorded a team-high four shots.
"I am so proud of the team for finding a way to come out with a victory," head coach Nathan Bell said. "Abdella played an unbelievable game for us."
The Bloodhounds will close out the season with a conference game against Medgar Evers on Wednesday, October 23 at 4:00pm.
