Box Score The women's soccer team defeated York College, 3-1, on Monday afternoon at Aviator Field. As a result, the Bloodhounds improve to 4-14 on the season (3-3 in CUNYAC) and the Cardinals fall to 2-12 overall (1-5 in CUNYAC).
For the first twenty minutes of play, the match was scoreless with each team not recording many shots. In the 24th minute of the first half, York's Anna Lales headed the ball into the back of the net to give York a 1-0 lead.
Thirteen minutes later, John Jay responded as sophomore
Katelyn Davis scored on a penalty kick. Going into halftime, York outshot John Jay 6-2 with the score remained tied at one.
Six minutes into the second half, Davis took a corner kick and placed it inside the box for freshman
Jessica Jean to head in for the Bloodhounds second goal of the game. Later in the half, freshman
Liliana Bonilla added another goal on a breakaway on a pass from junior
Stephannie Rengifo.
Sophomore
Andrea Antoni recorded the victory and made two saves. Davis finished with one goal and one assist.
"I was very happy with how the team responded after being down 1-0," head coach
Kamal Haruna. "Our goal was to get back to a conference record of .500 and we did."
The Bloodhounds continue their road trip on Wednesday, October 23 against Ramapo College at 4:00pm.
