Box Score The women's soccer team fell to the College of Staten Island, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon at Randall's Island. The Bloodhounds drop to 2-8 overall (1-2 in CUNYAC) while the Dolphins improve to 10-0-1 (5-0 in CUNYAC).
For the first twenty minutes of play, Staten Island outplayed the Bloodhounds but John Jay's defense held their own. Sophomore
Andrea Antoni made some key saves to keep the game scoreless. However, the Dolphins netted the first goal of the game when Jean Notholt made a pass to Kathryn Dowling who found the back of the net. Staten Island outshot the Bloodhounds, 13-1 in the first half.
The second half looked much like the first with the Dolphins controlling the ball. Every chance John Jay could clear the ball out of the box, they did. The Dolphins added two insurance goals late in the game to give them a 3-0 conference win.
Freshman Liliana Bonnila and
Jessica Jean, along with sophomore
Katelyn Davis each recorded one shot for the Bloodhounds. Antoni finished the day with 17 saves.
The Dolphins got goals from Dowling, Samantha Wysokowski, and Mateamarie DeNoble. Melissa Gelardi dished out two assists in the contest.
"Staten Island is a very good team and they showed that today," head coach
Kamal Haruna said. "Our defense played real well today and Antoni made some great saves."
The Bloodhounds will hit the road on Monday, October 7th for a match against Richard Stockton. The match is scheduled to start at 6pm.
