The women's basketball lost to Lehman College on Tuesday evening at the Doghouse. The Bloodhounds fall to 3-5 overall (1-2 in CUNYAC) while the Lightning improve to 7-2 (3-0 in CUNYAC) on the season.
Junior
Tyana Hale scored four seconds into the contest after receiving the tip-off from senior
Jamecia Forsythe. The Lightning tied the game at five and followed on a 9-0 run to lead 14-5. Forsythe and Hale hit back-to-back jump shots to cut the deficit to seven.
Midway through the first half, Lehman increased the lead to 16 before the Bloodhounds responded. Junior
Aneska Tejada made a layup and Forsythe converted on a three-point play.
With the Lightning leading 39-24 with less than four minutes left, Hale scored the Bloodhounds next four points. John Jay was heading into the second half down by eight, until Lehman's Amani Lightbourne hit a three-point buzzer beater to end the half with Lehman leading, 46-35.
John Jay scored the first six points of the second half when Forsythe, Hale, and freshman Tiffany Rodriguez all made layups. With 17:38 left in the game, Hale hit a layup to cut the deficit to four. Forsythe then hit a jumper but the Lightning later went on a 5-0 to increase the lead back to seven.
With seven minutes left on the clock, Lehman led by as much as 10 but the Bloodhouds would not go down without a fight. John Jay recorded six straight points with three minutes left to cut the lead to four. However, Lehman would hold on to the late lead to take the conference game by a score of 79-75.
Hale scored a season-best and game-high 28 points, on 10-19 shooting from the field, to go along with eight rebounds, two blocks, one assist, and one steal. Forsythe recorded her fourth straight and sixth double-double of the season with 19 points, 14 rebounds, two steals, one block, and one steal. Rodriguez fell one rebound shy of a double-double as she registered 11 points and nine rebounds. Tejada recorded 10 points and sophomore
Terri Chu added a game-high seven assists. Junior Katelyn Fitzgerald had four assists and five rebounds.
Amely Del Rosario scored a team-high 22 points for the Lightning. Shalaya Nieves recorded a double-double with 20 points and 15 rebounds.
The Bloodhounds will head to Hunter College on Friday, December 13 for a conference game at 5 p.m.
