The women's basketball team lost to Baruch College, 81-56, on Friday evening at the ARC Arena. The Bloodhounds fall to 3-4 overall (1-1 in CUNYAC) while the Bearcats improve to 4-1 (2-0 in CUNYAC) on the season.
The Bloodhounds opened up the scoring with junior
Tyana Hale recording the first seven points for John Jay. With the Bloodhounds leading 7-2, senior
Jamecia Forsythe hit a jumper to give John Jay an early seven-point lead. The Bloodhounds had the lead for much of the half until Baruch tied the game at 22 with eight minutes left to play in the half.
Hale and freshman Tiffany Rodriguez hit back-to-back three pointers to give John Jay a 28-22 lead. Once again, the Bearcats went on a 7-1 run to tie the game up at 29 apiece. The remaining minutes in the half went back-and-forth until Baruch scored eight of the last ten points. At halftime, the Bearcats led 41-35.
Early on in the second half, Baruch increased the lead to 11 but the Bloodhounds fought back. Forsythe hit back-to-back jump shots to cut the deficit to seven. However, Baruch followed with a 13-2 to put the game out of reach. The Bearcats went on to win the conference game, 81-56.
The Bloodhounds were led by Forsythe, who recorded her third straight double-double. Forsythe finished with a team-high 18 points (on 7-12 shooting), 12 rebounds, three blocks, two assists and one steal. Hale registered 13 points and Rodriguez added 11 points and five rebounds. Junior
Aneska Tejada had a team-high two steals.
Alicea Ulmer recorded a double-double for the Bearcats with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Sheridan Taylor finished with eight points and 12 rebounds.
The Bloodhounds will return home on Tuesday, December 10 for a conference game against Lehman College at 5:00 p.m.
