BROOKLYN, N.Y.— The John Jay women's basketball team defeated Medgar Evers College 88-44 at Medgar Evers College on Monday evening.
The win was John Jay's thirteenth of the season as the Bloodhounds assured themselves a regular season of over .500 for the first time since 2006-07. The Bloodhounds now stands at 13-10 overall with two games remaining. The John Jay improved to 10-4 in CUNYAC play this season. Medgar Evers is now 0-22 (0-13 CUNYAC).
John Jay had two players earn double-doubles as
Aneska Tejada had 14 points and 13 rebounds, and
Jamecia Forsythe had 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Victoria Story led the team in scoring with 22 points, while
Tyana Hale had 13 points and eight rebounds in the victory.
Medgar Evers was led by Imani Mason with 22 points, 13 rebounds and seven steals. Nia Tompkins added 13 points for the Cougars.
The Bloodhounds opened the game on an 8-0 run and never trailed in the contest as John Jay led from start to finish.
John Jay led 49-23 at halftime and outscored Medgar Evers 39-21 in the second half for their highest point total of the season.
The tough John Jay defense limited Medgar Evers to 17.6 percent shooting (12-for-68) marking the second game in a row John Jay held its opponent under twenty percent from the floor.
John Jay returns to action on Wed. Feb 6 for a home game against Brooklyn College at 5 p.m.
