Baseball Loses to Misericordia

FORT PIERCE, Fla.— The John Jay baseball team was defeated by Misericordia College 18-2 on Saturday afternoon. The Bloodhounds are now 0-2 on the young season.
 
Misericordia scored at least one run in six of the eight innings they batted in. The Cougars scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. Misericordia then scored another run in the third, followed by another in the fourth before tacking on two more in the fifth to take a 6-0 lead after five innings.
 
The Cougars then put up nine in the sixth inning to break the game wide open as Misericordia went ahead 15-0. After a scoreless seventh, the Cougars added two more runs in the eighth to round out the scoring.
 
John Jay's two runs came in the top of the ninth, breaking Misericordia's shutout bid. Steve Donato, who was 2-for-4, hit a single to score Luca Altamirano for the first run of the game for the Bloodhounds. Moments later, a single by Billy Moran, who also was 2-for-4, knocked in Dennis Lopez.
 
Alex Depasquale suffered the loss after going 5.0 innings and allowing seven runs (six earned) on eight hits. He struck out three batters.
