THROGGS NECK, N.Y.— The John Jay baseball team was defeated by Maritime College 7-2 under the lights on Wednesday evening.
The loss drops the Bloodhounds' record to 0-7 overall this season, while Maritime improves to 4-9 this season.
John Jay scored a run in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. But the host Privateers scored three in the bottom half of the frame to go ahead 3-1. John Jay edged closer with another run in the top of the third to make the score 3-2. But Maritime scored three more runs in the bottom of the fourth and another one in the fifth to lead 7-2 after five.
The Bloodhounds' first run came when leadoff hitter
Luca Altamirano scored from third base on a ground out by
Steven Donato. Then in the third inning Donato ripped a double to center field to score
Dennis Lopez who reached base on a fielder's choice.
John Jay got four hits in the game, including two by Altamirano, one by Donato and one by
Jose Fernandez.
The Privateers had 14 hits in the game, including four from Nick Galli who was 4-for-5 with a run. Teammate Bryan Colasacco was 2-for-4 with a homerun, two runs and a run batted in.
Chris Cracchiolo suffered the loss after going 6.0 innings and allowed seven runs on 14 hits. He struck out six batters in the contest.
