Baseball Loses to St. Joseph's-Brooklyn

BELLEROSE, N.Y.— The John Jay baseball team was defeated by St. Joseph's-Brooklyn 5-1 in a non conference affair on Tuesday afternoon.
 
The loss leaves the Bloodhounds at 2-19 overall this season.
 
The game started out as a pitcher's duel from the start with neither team scoring a run through the first five innings.
 
John Jay broke the scoreless tie in the top of the sixth inning as Erik Pratz scored an unearned run after Dennis Lopez reached on a St. Joseph's-Brooklyn throwing error.
 
But that was the only run the Bloodhounds would score, and the host Bears came back with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the frame to go ahead 2-1. St. Joseph's-Brooklyn then scored three more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to take a 5-1 lead, the score in which they won.
 
John Jay had eight hits in the contest, including two each by Lopez and Nico Rivera.
 
St. Joseph's-Brooklyn was led by Joseph Mendez who was 3-for-4 and was a triple shy of batting for the cycle. He scored twice and drove in three runs. Meanwhile Mike Cundari also had three hits and was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle. He scored once and drove in a pair.
 
Trevor Johnson suffered the loss after pitching 7.1 innings and allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits, while striking out three batters.
