BELLEROSE, N.Y.— The John Jay baseball team was defeated by St. Joseph's-Brooklyn 11-3 at Padavan Preller Field on Thursday afternoon.
The loss leaves John Jay at 2-20 on the season, while St. Joseph's is now 14-8 overall and completed a sweep in the home and home series with the Bloodhounds this week.
John Jay had six hits in the contest with six players getting one each as
Esteban Soler,
Dennis Lopez,
Nico Rivera,
Ronald Barillas,
Erik Pratz and
Steven Donato got one each. Donato's hit was a double, while the others were singles.
St. Joseph's had 17 hits in the affair and were led by Brian Luebcke with four. He was 4-for-5 with a double, three runs batted in and a run scored. Thomas McKenna was 3-for-4 with a homerun, three runs and a run batted in. Mike Cundari was 3-for-5 with a triple, a run, and a run batted in.
John Jay used six pitchers in the contest, with none pitching more than two innings.
Braylin Perez suffered the loss in relief. After inheriting a 3-3 tie in the top of the third, he gave up the solo homerun to McKenna which put the Bears ahead 4-3 at the moment. Chris
Cracchiolo started the game and allowed three runs. After Perez's two innings of work, the Bloodhounds used
Nico Rivera in the fifth and sixth,
Jose Fernandez in the seventh,
Luca Altamirano in the eighth and
Ronald Barillas in the ninth.
St. Joseph's starter Rosario DiLorenzo went the distance and allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits. He struck out six and walked two.
John Jay returns to action on Saturday for a critical doubleheader against conference foe the City College of New York in a battle for the inside track to the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) playoffs. The twin bill will be played at Salesian High School in New Rochelle, N.Y.
