Baseball Splits a Doubleheader with Bard

KINGSTON, N.Y.—The John Jay baseball team split a doubleheader with Bard College on Saturday afternoon. The Bloodhounds won the first contest 8-2, before losing the nightcap 6-3 to earn a split with the Raptors for the second time this week and season (the two schools split a pair of game on April 23).
 
In the first game, the Bloodhounds were led by Nico Rivera and Dennis Lopez with two hits each. Rivera was 2-for-2 with a double, a pair of walks, a run and three runs batted in. Lopez was 2-for-4, with a double and pair of runs.  Jose Fernandez and Erik Pratz added one hit each in the victory.
 
John Jay opened the game by scoring three runs to lead 3-0 before Bard came to the plate. Bard scored a run in the bottom of the first to make the score 3-1. John Jay extended the lead to 5-1 with two runs in the top of the fourth. The Raptors got a run back in the bottom half of the inning, but never any closer as the Bloodhounds added two more runs in the fifth to pull away late and put the game out of reach.
 
Steven Donato picked up the win in relief after tossing 3.2 innings of perfect baseball. Trevor Johnson started the game and went 3.1 innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits.
 
In game two, John Jay scored the first run of the game in the third inning to lead 1-0. But Bard scored four in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead en route to salvaging the split.
 
The Bloodhounds had five hits in the second game, one each coming off the bat of Esteban Soler, Luca Altamirano, Donato, Lopez and Fernandez.
 
Rivera picked up the loss in the second game. He went 4.0 innings and allowed four runs (one earned) on six hits.
